I am a fully qualified and highly experienced landscape architect with thirty years of practice. My projects range from corporate and commercial designs and office parks, through retail malls, hotels and resorts to residential estates and upmarket homes.
For 10 years until October 2017 I was a partner at Insite landscape architects but since then I have run my own practice. I am sometimes contracted to undertake work as principal designer for other landscape companies, such as Bertha Wium Landscape Development.
The many small and large-scale projects I have successfully completed in South Africa and in several other African and Indian Ocean countries have given me valuable experience with working in a wide range of diverse climatic locations and cultural milieus.
My work is known for its innovative designs, attention to detail and my ability to visualize the end product clearly. Some of the projects for which I was principal designer have received Gold Awards from SALI and ILASA. My experience in having studied and undertaken interior design has help me develop an eye for balance and fine detail.
Where relevant, desirable and feasible I like to engage with local artists in providing public art and creating play areas for children within the landscape project as a whole (for example, at shopping malls, schools, office parks or upmarket homes).
Travelling has given me the opportunity of visiting many outstanding landscape developments on four continents, from Renaissance through Andalusian, Mughal and Baroque gardens to large-scale contemporary projects. I am particularly interested in the concept of landscape as functional art – landscape as sculpture.
